The idea of starting this institution came up from a group of doctors who were passionate about starting a medical college (owned by Nepalese doctors) outside of the valley, at a place which would provide quality education to the medical students and more importantly, provide affordable and quality health care services to a large population of Chitwan.
The Chitwan District is one of the 77 districts of Nepal, located in the southwestern part of Province 3 with an area of 2238.39 sq. km and population of approximately 580000, and is a major destination for higher education, health care and transport business in the region.
After receiving LOI in 2006 A.D (2063 B.S.), CMC started BNS program in the same year. The foundation of this institution was laid on 2007 A.D, and its tertiary care-hospital situated at Bharatpur-10 was inaugurated on Bhadra 14, 2065. Now, after 13 years of service, the hospital has upgraded to 750 beds with more that 70% occupancy all the time, provides almost all modern medical services (with specialty services) along with advanced diagnostic facilities and imaging services, employs more than 1400 people (including clinical staffs, administrative staffs and others). More than 1500 patients visit the outpatient departments every day and it has become one of the major choices for the people seeking healthcare.
CMC is also Nepal’s first ISO certified Teaching Hospital. It serves approximately a quarter of a million people a year, from its district and outskirt areas involving the neighboring states of India also. Our hallmark is 'patient-centricity’, which can be seen in the services it provides to people. Despite the fact that we are private institution, we are firmly committed to provide quality health services to people at affordable price, and work in tandem with the Government of Nepal (GoN) to uplift the health status of the region. We strongly realize the corporate social responsibility and hence, are engaged in a variety of social/health activities.
CMC was established with a vision that it would be an institute, where any aspirant could make it the destination of choice for the study of any branch of health related science. The academia started with the commencement of Bachelor in Nursing (BN) program in 2007, which was followed by B.Sc. Nursing program in 2008. Intake of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) started from 2009 with the MBBS 1st batch comprising of 80 students. In the subsequent years, several other bachelor-level academic programs were started: such as Bachelor’s in Medical Laboratory Technology (BSc MLT), Bachelor’s in Medical Imaging Technology (BSc MIT), Bachelor in Dental Surgery (BDS), Bachelor’s in Pharmacy (B. Pharm) and Bachelor’s in Public Health (BPH). The institution now boasts of more than 800 undergraduate students. All of these undergraduate programs are affiliated to Tribhuvan University (TU). The sincere and continuous efforts of the management team, faculty members, staffs and the students and their parents have made CMCTH one of the prime destinations for medical studies.
Master’s in Nursing program (MN) was the first postgraduate program at the institution, which started in the year 2010. It was followed by Master’s in Public Health (MPH) and Master’s in Clinical Microbiology (MSc. Clinical Microbiology) programs. A variety of fellowship programs were started (FCPS, FCMC, FC Cardiology) in 2016 for specialized training for the doctors. More recently, from the year 2018, we have started postgraduate programs in select clinical subjects (MD/MS programs), HIEM (Hybrid International Emergency Medicine) program and are on the process of adding further programs in the coming future.
The college facility is located at Kailashnagar, Chitwan (approximately 8 km away from Bharatpur city, where the hospital is located). CMC is an academic and medical center with well-equipped lecture halls; seminar rooms; and departmental museums, libraries with internet, and laboratories which meet the norms set by the related health professional’s councils and University.
